link exchange
The methods that search engines like Google use to determine which sites come near to the top in their search results are ever-changing and shrouded in secrecy. However one of the most important factors is the number and quality of incoming links from other sites.
It is a good idea to try to cultivate links - and reciprocate them - with other sites. This has the added benefit of bringing people to your site when they find the link.
We can advise you on how to generate links to your site and we can create a survey of the links to sites similar to yours to suggest possible leads. As time goes on we are building a community of artists' websites and you will have the opportunity of adding your site.
link tips
- Link exchanging is an ongoing process. It is better to do a little bit on a regular basis than having a go at the beginning and then stopping.
- Make a note of possible candidates as you surf the web or meet people in the real world. Relevant sites are best but also consider other areas of your life: friends, family, social networks, special interest groups.
- The ideal link uses a relevant keyword or words as the linking phrase. We can create a snippet of code that you can ask people to paste into their website.
- The best links come from sites which are well connected themselves. One of the indications is Google's PageRank system. The higher the number the better. You can check a site's PageRank here.
- You can check which sites have links to your site or anyone else's by entering the address in a search engine.
- You could write an article related to your work with links to you in it and look for sites which will use it.
