web sites for artists
search engine visibility
The internet is densely populated and getting more congested every day. It is essential to make sure that your work stands out in the crowd.
Your website may be all about images but without words they are invisible. Search engines analyse the text content of your page to determine what it is about and to rate its importance.
optimisation
Many people do not bother to make their sites visible and actually make it hard for search engines to find them by using Flash and Frames. You will have the advantage of taking visibility seriously from the start.
submission
There are companies who offer to submit your site to hundreds of search engines for a fee. Currently a handful of search engines handle over 95% of all searches so we concentrate on them. Most of them do not rely on submission and all are free. It is however important to submit your site to dmoz.org.
accessibility
We will ensure that your website complies with current web standards to make your site as visible as possible to people as well as search engine spiders.
visibility tips
- Use keywords in text, especially headings, without making it sound too much like a thesaurus.
- Break up text with headings, sub-headings and bulleted lists. These help search engines focus on important content.
- Give descriptive titles to work where possible: eg “Sussex Landscape” rather than “Untitled 1” and write a description with specific keywords eg “Pen and ink landscape drawing on paper of the panoramic view from Devil's Dyke north of Brighton, East Sussex of the South Downs and the Sussex Weald including Fulking, Poynings and Newtimber Hill. One of a series of rural land scape and cloud scape studies shown at the Sussex Open Exhibition, at the Hove Museum and Art Gallery in 2007...”.
- If you have a budget for promoting your site it may be worth considering a Pay Per Click campaign to place your site in the paid-for sections of search engine results.
